Summary
Responsible for troubleshooting Long Island Rail Road equipment.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Inspect, maintain, repair and install electrical components such as armatures, generators, inverters/converters, motor alternators, regulators, traction motors, switchboards, lighting fixture, magnet coils, jumpers, batteries, printed circuit cards, inside and outside wiring at shops, buildings and yards, and conduct work on any and all rolling stock equipment, support shop equipment or plant equipment.
- Move cars within Maintenance of Equipment territory.
- Will be required to learn and troubleshoot defects using the Automatic Train Control System.
- Maintain HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems, which includes but is not limited to freon handling.
Qualifications
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent (GED) approved by a State's Department of Education or recognized accredited organization.
- Minimum of four years electrical experience. Related electrical trade school accreditation and work experience may comprise the required four years experience.
- Ability to trouble-shoot equipment.
- Mechanical ability, and ability to use various electrical meters and testing devices.
- Ability to read wiring schematic diagrams.
- Knowledge of relay logic.

Wage Progression:
1/1/09 Rate: $31.185 is the 100% rate
70% - 1st 240 days of compensated time
75% - 2nd 240 days of compensated time
80% - 3rd 240 days of compensated time
90% - 4th 240 days of compensated time
95% - 5th 240 days of compensated time
100% - After 1,200 days of compensated time
Note: Consistent with Rule 67B of the IBEW Agreement, in the case of a transfer into the craft, employees will be subject to enter the wage progression at the 70% rate.

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include, but is not limited to, a pre-screening assessment (i.e. physical, written and/ or practical evaluation) and interview. Candidates forfeit further consideration in the process if they fail to participate in any step of the process when scheduled. Make up dates/times will not be given. In addition, LIRR employee applicants must be in their current position for the 12 months immediately preceding the close date of this posting and must possess a satisfactory work history, including attendance and discipline record.
