Job Description

The Employment and Technology Center is seeking Teaching Artists with visual/graphic designed backgrounds to support our curriculum in the area of Visual/Graphic Arts. Teaching Artists will help our students learn the world of visual/graphic design and are the program advocate for Arts education as a means to cultivate the student holistically in an educational setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Prepare and develop class curriculum, lesson plans, activities, and special projects
* Lead and facilitate 2 hour classes in the Fall and Spring and 6 hour classes in the Summer
* Coordinate subject related trips, guest speakers, special events, student exhibitions, and college trips
* Attend weekly staff meetings
* Work with Education team in creating visual/graphic arts and academic lessons
* Be committed and integrate youth development into teaching practice
* Engage youth in the following areas: critical thinking; evaluation; risk-taking; rehearsals; hands-on project-based learning; documentation of work; community-building and activism
* Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications Skills and Knowledge Requirements

* Bachelor s degree in Graphic Design and/or equivalent work experience
* A commitment to teaching and providing continuity on a part time basis through the end of the school year
* Experience working in youth development with high school youth and teaching well developed enrichment courses, social consciousness, self identity and efficacy
* Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively on projects with staff and students and full curriculum
* Personal portfolio and examples of past and/or present work
* Knowledge in the following a plus: Adobe CS3, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and DreamWeaver
* Ability to work 3pm-7pm / Monday Thursday
