  • Overview

    The New York Public Library is redefining libraries for the 21st Century. To help us undertake this ambitious task, we are looking for an enthusiastic Junior Product Manager to help define, develop, and manage digital products, and update our existing products.

    You will be working with Senior Product Management staff and the engineering team to define products, drive completion of tech goals, establish priorities, and communicate to different teams, stakeholders and users at the library. Take products successfully through a product development lifecycle while learning and refining your Product Management techniques.

    Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Director, Digital Products (DDP), the Junior Product Manager (JPM) works with Senior Product Management staff and the engineering team to define products, drive completion of tech goals, establish priorities, and communicate to different teams, stakeholders and users at the library. Take products successfully through a product development lifecycle while learning and refining their Product Management techniques.

    • Support Senior Product Staff and each of NYPL Digital’s portfolio areas
    • In partnership with Senior Staff, take ownership of contained products, to help define the MVP, roadmap, and create documentation for that product, and understand the product’s lifecycle
    • Assist in market analysis and user testing for products
    • Work with patrons to understand their specific needs within a portfolio area or for a specific product
    • Write epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and create other Agile documentation artifacts, within the NYPL tool set
    • Work with partners across the library to define product scope, and help define clear priorities for Library-wide products
    • Collaborate with technical, ux, and product team members to build high-quality products for our patrons and library staff.
    • Identify and remove roadblocks to keep a project running smoothly
    • Help to create and communicate project timeline and product status, as well as delivery schedule and roadmap for the multiple phases of a project
    • Work with Senior Staff to capture the delivery requirements of grant-based products
    • Help to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality products
    • Support projects through project management activities
    • Grow your skills by working with Senior Product Management leadership staff to learn multiple methodologies and techniques to grow further your professional development
    • And other tasks and projects as assigned

    Required Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in technology, business, psychology, or related field preferred
    • Some experience with Product Management and/or Project Management

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrable ability to work on a deadline and strong decision making ability
    • Data driven with strong analytical capability, understands the concepts of KPIs, measurements of success, and impact of a product
    • Organized, focused, extremely detailed oriented and adept at prioritization
    • Thoughtful problem solver, and a demonstrable ability to negotiate
    • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple technical and non-technical teams to develop goals and then aggressively pursue them with minimal supervision
    • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and users
    • Mature, empathetic, enthusiastic, and adaptable in large collaborative environments
