A "Hands-on" Engineer, to provide technical assistance and support to Operations, Quality, Design Engineering and Maintenance, in order to resolve manufacturing issues and to drive Continuous Process Improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To become the Process Expert. Primary contact for Manufacturing, regarding equipment and process issues, including (but not limited to) equipment downtime and production of nonconforming product.
  2. Continuous improvement driver. Improve profitability and efficiencies of Business Unit through implementation of process improvements affecting scrap, labor and downtime. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and cost savings through application of Lean and Six Sigma Manufacturing techniques such as 6S, SMED and Error-proofing.
  3. Participate in product launches to ensure a smooth transition from design and launch phases into manufacturing. Develop PFMEA’s to identify and minimize any potential issues.
  4. Responsible for equipment purchases as necessary including presenting justification for capital expenses on new equipment or process improvements, design and specification of equipment and standardization of equipment within manufacturing methods and safety requirements.
  5. Design and manage new equipment process development, timing, budget, setup, debug and training.
  6. Work with manufacturing, engineering, and quality to setup SPC files for new products/processes or executes changes to existing ones.
  7. Create, update, and maintain manufacturing work instructions, i.e. standard operating procedures. Train Operators on manufacturing processes.
  8. In cooperation with Manufacturing, R&D and Marketing develop product specifications that specify target values, tolerance ranges, and other parameters as required.
  9. Develop and maintain product grade masters as required.
  10. Capture and evaluate manufacturing process output data utilizing statistical techniques.
  11. Conduct capability studies in support of new product commercialization process and "proposed specification masters",customer specification development and continuous improvement activities.
  12. Collect and evaluate historical data in support of customer complaint program.

  13. Design or specify inspection and testing devices and equipment.

  • Must be able to work extended hours when required

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:

(If a degree is required it must be from an accredited institution)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline
  • A strong understanding of air-laid and wet-laid non-woven processes (fiberglass, synthetics, and etc.)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Manufacturing environment requiring multi-tasking and the ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to function within cross-functional teams, utilizing good communication skills and a "hands–on" approach within all projects
  • Must be a strong "trouble-shooter" with a working knowledge of continuous processes
  • Proficient in MS Office and CAD software and applications

Additional Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile, Paper Science, Chemical or Industrial Engineering preferred
  • 5 years or more experience with air-laid and wet-laid non-woven and needling knowledge, preferably with fiberglass.
  • Knowledge of Lean and Six-Sigma doctrinesProject management skills
  • Background in ISO and Quality processes
  • Experience working with customers on problem resolution
